Trial By Fire Pottery

About the Maker

Hilary has been a potter since curiosity drew her into the Bonnyville Potters' Guild in 1996. Elaine Zimmer and Joy Clarke were all too happy to share their love of clay and an open studio pass was all it took to begin a life in clay.

Hilary made her way to Mt. Royal College at the turn of the century and into the clay department despite being a science major. A few years later, Hilary received an old Estrin wheel from her husband as a Christmas present and later found her first kiln through a very sweet captain at the CFD where she was a firefighter. Shift work gave her plenty of time to practice clay work and develop the studio skills of glaze making and kiln loading and firing that would launch her into the world of clay.

In 2006, Hilary quit her firefighter career, handed in her uniforms and duty gear for a one way ticket to Vancouver Island with her amazing husband David.

Hilary has been a vendor at many Farmers' Markets all over the island and sold in galleries since putting down roots in the Cowichan Valley.

Hilary's work can be found online and at the eclectic and very elegant gallery in downtown Duncan BC, called Imagine That! Artisan Gallery. LoveCraft Tofino also stocks a wide variety of Hilary's mugs!

There are a very limited number of spaces in her pottery wheel classes at her pretty home studio in Cowichan Bay, BC. Email if you would like to be added to her waitlist.

Hilary and David created a unique farm stand that is stocked by appointment. It is also a pleasant way to pick up online purchases without any contact.
